The MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from Tinseltown this year, returning to Los Angeles for the first time in a decade.
“With Paramount Pictures as the ideal setting, the glamour and musical heritage of L.A. are sure to be catalysts for creating explosive pop culture moments that the VMAs are known for,” Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music Group, said in a statement.
The 25th-anniversary VMA show will take place Sept. 7 at Paramount Pictures Studio lot in Los Angeles, MTV said Monday. For the first time, the MTV audience will help select the nominees.
Last year, the event took place at Vegas’s Palms Casino Resort – where Britney Spears’s career officially imploded after a disastrous comeback number, Kanye West angrily swore never to work with MTV again because he didn’t win any awards (he later retracted the claim), and Kid Rock and Tommy Lee raised fisticuffs against one another over mutual ex Pamela Anderson.
No telling what this year might bring.
