Suzi Templeton “Dog”

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

Suzie Templeton’s “Dog” isn’t new—it was first released back in 2002—but it’s a beautiful example of how subtlety can convey so much emotion. The father rubbing his temples, the lifeless swing of his arm after he flicks off the bedroom light. But it’s not just about character animation. The narrative is powerful—gut-wrenchingly sad and a little spooky.

Thanks to Chris Carboni for sending this my way.

Sherbet/James Wignall for Nova

Agency Young & Rubicam (France) tapped UK-based production house Sherbet to create this narrative short for French radio station Nova.

The spot marks the directorial debut of Motionographer’s own James Wignall. He’s brought his full talents to bear on this project, creating a lush atmosphere and injecting some whimsy into the character animation. I also dig the heavily textured environments and props.

TEG’s Arthur Industries: Super Power Bloke

Sunday, February 3rd, 2008

I was combing through the The Ebeling Group’s contributions to this year’s Sundance Film Festival, when I happened upon “Super Power Bloke,” an animated short originally created for the Live Earth Film Series. I must have missed it then, but it’s never too late to join the Super Power Bloke fan club.

The film was created by TEG’s Arthur Industries, whom we’ve featured here before.

Elijah Raps for Shilo / Cartoon Network

Friday, February 1st, 2008

Shilo recently directed and animated this nice little promo for Cartoon Network. A combination of traditional cel, 2D, 3D animation, together with hand-drawn imagery and live-action (so pretty much every discipline)! I can’t say it’s anything new to motion graphics (it’s been done quite a few times and recently for Kanye Wests Good Life video), but what I can say is that this is an exceptionally good example and the execution is so amazingly slick.
