Prada Panache

Friday, December 19th, 2008

Prada keeps on evolving. Last season’s campaign with industry standards Linda Evangelista and Patrick Petitjean was all about mature refinement but for S/S 09 the brand shifts gears towards a youthful interpretation of luxury. Enlisting the season’s most prominent fresh faces to portray an elegantly coiffed series of sirens makes for an inspiring visual. Viktoriya Sosonkina, Toni Garrn, Ymre Stiekema, Katrin Thormann, Nimue Smit, Sigrid Agren and Giedre Dukauskaite represent everything Prada stands for. Drawing inspiration from ancient stone reliefs and classical art Meisel creates an enthralling vision. With the first picture giving us just a taste of what is to come, we cannot wait to see what else the maestro has up his sleeves.

The unstoppable Abbey Lee Kershaw keeps going and going. Fresh off the heels of her incredibly sexy turn in Vogue Italia the Aussie bombshell follows up with a ladylike turn for W. Shot by Knoepfel & Indlekofer, the dark yet feminine editorial highlights Abbey’s delicate doll like features and the best of the pre-spring season.

Adding Up

Thursday, December 18th, 2008

S/S 09 ads keep coming and as each new campaign debuts another layer of excitement is added. YSL gives us Claudia Schiffer at her most dramatic - posing in front of the legendary Hollywood sign and looking every bit the star while Armani Jeans features a host of fresh faces including catwalk standouts Sigrid Agren and Sara Blomqvist. For the Akris S/S 09 ads Daiane Conterato lends her signature glare to the brand’s elegant minimalist chic.

New Sensation

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Hundreds of magazines cross our paths each year but few have the visual impact of Gravure. Each issue is a work of art unto itself. The unique format requires each page to be separated delicately from the whole before one can read it. This guarantees that every page will be read and provides a truly original presentation. The format calls to mind vintage printing techniques where the pages of books were sealed together.

Issue no. three is composed of a black and white series of evocative images from the coolest photographers on the block. Jenny Gage and Tom Betterton contribute a sensuous editorial starring Patricia Schmid, Tiiu Kuik and Sydonie. The trio lounges around a loft looking elegantly wasted in next to nothing fashions. Every editorial is an enticing continuation of the same dynamic theme whether it is Timoxa Timoschenko looking ethereal for Alex Freund or Julian Hennig displaying the seasons most interesting menswear.

Superman Returns!

Wednesday, December 17th, 2008

Somewhere in the Vogue office lurks a latent comic book fanatic. Every few months an editorial taken straight from the pages of DC or Marvel pops up to remind us of the joyous pleasure comics can bring. For January visions of Superman and Lois Lane run through Mario Testino’s colorful and lighthearted editorial. With David Gandy as the archetypal hero and Carolyn Murphy as his designer clad counterpart, the story could not be more cheerfully cartoonish.

Classical Revival

Tuesday, December 16th, 2008

Spring kicks off early for ad-dicts. With the S/S 09 campaigns debuting in January magazines we are beginning to notice a theme. It would appear fashion is once again embracing its time honed traditions. From Raquel Zimmermann in classic retro garb for Oscar de la Renta (shades of Betty Draper with the full skirt and classic red lip) to Stephanie Seymour reprising her role as ultimate pinup, ads are looking to the past for inspiration. Mrs. Brant’s Valentino pictures with the stark black and white image could be tears from a mid 90s Vogue while Lakshmi Menon and Eniko Mihalik look every bit the supermodels in their Max Mara campaign.

Red Delicious

While her striking haircolor change only made its official debut last week, Coco Rocha’s new locks are already in Vogue. Patrick Demarchelier gives us our first editorial glimpse of the fiery red tresses while famously flame haired fashion insiders like Grace Coddington and Karen Elson extol the virtues of red hair in the accompanying article.

We love how Calvin Klein campaign face, Blaine Cook continues to challenge his editorial game. Hardworking and professional to boot, it’s clear that Blaine’s a long distance runner.
