A few nights ago, at a dinner party in Manhattan, a magazine editor friend told my sister of a business conversation she'd recently had with a bright, 20something woman who works at a Los Angeles entertainment agency. This young woman had mentioned that she'd never seen a black and white movie. Not one. Ever. Shocked, my sister's friend offered to provide a shortlist of titles the young woman might enjoy renting (and, though this went unspoken, might also benefit from seeing -- she's supposedly in the business, after all). "The Lady Eve"? "Citizen Kane"? "Some Like It Hot"? "Oh, that's all right," the woman said. "I'm pretty familiar with all the classics. Why, just the other night I watched 'Rocky.'"
